Francesca writes for noted composer Mervyn Burtch MBE. Their collaboration include ‘Hail Taliesin’, a collection of songs for the Youth Choir of Wales; ‘The Green Isles of the Ocean’ a narrative work commissioned by the Tenby Music Festival; and ‘The First Dragon’, for narrator and orchestra, originally commissioned as a companion piece for ‘Peter and the Wolf’.

With Francesca narrating, The First Dragon has received 15 performances to date, delighting children and adults alike. To further promote the piece, a cd was recorded on 7th January 2007 at Sonic-One Studios. Adrian Partington conducted The Dragon Sinfonia,
amongst whose members could be found many members of the National Orchestra
of Wales. Francesca narrated.

'The First Dragon' forms part of a
'Young Composers' education pack,
produced by Ty Cerdd the Music Centre
of Wales. It has been used with great success in a project where,
after listening to the First Dragon, the children wrote their own versions of the story and then recorded their own
words and music.
Here is Stella, the little girl who
befriends the First Dragon, beautifully imagined by Charlotte Griffin.

The project will form a regular part of the education programme. Charlotte Griffin, Education Co ordinator at Ty Cerdd, has
beautifully illustrated the story for the pack. A performance is planned for
Spring 2009, which will be an collaboration between Ty Cerdd and the Welsh College of Music and Drama.
And here is the First Dragon's eye!
